FRANK EBER

ARTIST BIO
Frank Eber was raised in Europe and mentored by Italian master painter Renato Casaro in the early 90’s. In the ’80s and ’90s Frank worked as a professional illustrator and portrait artist by commission. His love for travel has given him prime opportunities to paint. He lived for three years in the south of France, and has painted on location in many countries around the world. Consequently, he has also painted in California and other parts of the United States.
Frank is a Signature member of the American Watercolor Society, the National Watercolor Society, and the Transparent Watercolor Society of America. He is also an Artist member of the California Art Club. Frank is also increasingly in demand as a judge and juror. He conducts workshops and demonstrations locally and at the national and international levels. In Frank's own words, "Painting is my meditation, my refuge. It exists in a timeless state–an ego-less zone in which I feel whole, as though life actually makes sense. One day I may be able to paint something of significance."

CURATOR'S COMMENTS
One of our featured artists at The Gallery remarked, “I can always spot a Frank Eber painting before I see the gallery tag.” Yes, Frank has a recognizable style, but it is hard to put your finger on it. Frank’s paintings make great use of contrast, each painting often has some pure white and some pure black. He has expressive brushwork and plays up the texture of the paint for emphasis. But if I had to pick one thing, I would say that Frank seems to be able to capture mystery. You recognize the scene or figures he paints has a story. You, as the viewer, can let your mind race ahead to guess at solutions to that mystery. Strong viewer engagement is a quality of a great painting.
